NCFE Survivors

Woodcraft School Ltd., based in Sussex, is delivering their NCFE qualifications in a very unusual location - the forest!

To complete the Bushcraft Awards, (developed using NCFE's Customised Award service), learners spend 5 days at a time in the woods, learning survival techniques and other outdoor challenges.

Woodcraft School has always been involved with outdoor education and developed these awards after realising that there was a huge gap in the market for programmes aimed at outdoor industry. The awards have attracted candidates from all walks of life including people from the army, builders, teachers, and children from the local school.

The 3 Bushcraft awards include the Level 3 Certificate in Bushcraft Leadership (aimed at training a new wave of instructors), the Level 3 Advanced Bushcraft Award (for existing practitioners and teachers) and the Level 2 Intermediate Bushcraft Award aimed at 14 - 19 year olds.

Caron Buckingham, who works at Woodcraft School, said: "We've taken advantage of the NCFE Customised Award service to create a range of bespoke Bushcraft Awards that have been very well received and often over subscribed!

"They've been so popular that we are now being asked to licence these products to other companies and schools around the UK. We also use the existing NCFE Creative Craft qualifications to deliver both Woodland and Primitive crafts at Levels 2 and 3."
