Tell us a bit about you

I'm a Mancunian now living in London with my wife and two children. When I’m not ferrying the kids around for various activities, I'm a huge book lover (alternating between current affairs, biographies and fiction), as well as a big film and music fan. I also like to try and volunteer in my spare time and have been chairing the Board of Governors at Barnet and Southgate College since May 2020, and am a long-standing trustee of the learning disability charity Macintyre.

Tell us a bit about your career

I first became involved in education as a policy and legislation lead at the DfE, sparking a lifelong interest in education and learning as a tool of social mobility that has underpinned my career ever since.  I've been fortunate enough to be involved in the sector at a national policy level, as a management consultant for PwC, where I also had the opportunity to lead large transformation programmes across a wide range of industries. Plus, most recently in the multi-academy trust world where I've been COO and an operations leader for Trusts running schools in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the country.  At all times, helping to free the latent potential that clearly exists in these communities and beyond has been my guiding mission, and one that I'm hugely excited to continue at NCFE.

Why NCFE?

From my first engagement with NCFE, it was clear that the organisation and I were completely aligned in our overriding mission – the key role of learning in transforming lives. Not only that, but the passion and commitment of NCFE colleagues to fulfilling this purpose also shone through.  There has never been a more important moment for vocational skills in the UK, and the opportunity to join the Executive team at a time in the organisation's history when it is on the cusp of such significant transformation, growth and strategic development was hugely motivating for me as a next step in my COO development. It's a great privilege to be part of the journey.
