Tell us a bit about you

I spent my younger years living in Essex and then making a living in London. I then moved to the North East in 1995, after my husband got a job in the area. My two daughters have grown up and flown the nest – one to Bristol and the other to Holland. I love walking, and most mornings can be found on Whitley Bay beach collecting sea glass before I start work. At the weekends I love to visit vintage fairs and love collecting things from the art deco period.

Tell us a bit about your career

I’ve had a very eclectic career. My second job was working for Spitting Image, where I ran their tourist attraction and looked after their marketing. From there, I moved to the V&A where I was Head of Marketing for their Theatre Museum. When I moved to the North East, I had a number of freelance jobs before starting my own internet design business – this was back in the day when Netscape was the primary browser! At the turn of the century (sounds so long ago!) I moved to Sage software, where I was Head of Product and Marketing. I spent a number of years there before joining an EdTech start up. Then, in 2013, I joined NCFE as an interim marketing manager and have enjoyed a rewarding career ever since.

Why NCFE?

From my very first interview with NCFE, I felt that this was an organisation I would enjoy working for. I knew nothing about education when I joined but had a superb team and set of colleagues who went out of their way to make my transition to the sector swift and enjoyable. Many of that original team I joined have gone on to great things, both within and outside of the organisation, which is testament to their skills, passion and attitude. I love that we are an ethical business that has the learner and customer at the heart of everything we do and that we never lose sight of this.
