Tell us a bit about you

Originally from a mining community in rural Gateshead, I’ve lived in London since leaving school. I share my life with my wife and our springer spaniel, and we now split our time between London and Northumberland. As a family, we enjoy spending time enjoying both the city life of theatres and events, and the outdoor life of walking and beaches.

Tell us a bit about your career

I’ve always worked in technology and IT, and I began my career as a Graduate Programmer working for a software house. Moving into the telecoms industry just as the market opened up in the UK in the 1990s, I spent over 20 years enjoying fantastic opportunities to implement leading technologies whilst building strong and lasting relationships, as this industry rapidly evolved and adapted into the new normal of TV streaming, mobile telephony and broadband internet that we all take for granted today. Joining KPMG as a Management Consultant, I also helped to provide services to corporate clients working on transformation programmes with a speciality in data and analytics.

Why NCFE?

Having enjoyed working in a corporate environment throughout my career, I was looking for an opportunity that would allow me to use my skills and experience to do something in alignment with my own values. When I first engaged with NCFE, I was attracted by the purpose of the organisation and its ambitious strategy. Joining at a time when NCFE is at the beginning of our Transformation journey excites me – I believe we can truly evolve and transform the organisation to enable us to grow our role in the next generation of vocational and skills education in the UK, and I look forward to playing a small part in achieving that goal.
