Tell us a bit about you

With my origins in Northern Ireland, my formative years in North Yorkshire and my teenage years in Hertfordshire, I now living in West Yorkshire with my husband, surrounded by our three children and two grandchildren. When I’m not with my family, I love to read, swim and sing (probably in the reverse order!) with a fantastic female voice choir. I also volunteer in my spare time as a governor in three organisations, which provide day care, out of school provision, special educational needs and adult care.

Tell us a bit about your career

I have over 17 years’ experience of management in the childcare and education sector and a further 12 years prior to this gaining commercial sales and training experience working in industry as a regional, then national Account Manager. I joined CACHE in 2010, bringing together my knowledge and experience of the childcare sector with my business background. When CACHE became part of NCFE in 2015, I directed the CACHE sector qualification and services, ensuring the gold standard qualifications continued to meet the needs of employers, providers and students. This included leading the Save Our Early Years campaign, which resulted in the government reinstating Functional Skills as alternative maths and English qualifications being accepted upon entry to the workforce as a Level 3 Early Years Educator.

Today, as Director of External and Regulatory Affairs, I ensure NCFE’s reputation as a leading educational services provider endures and that our qualifications and services continue to support individuals to achieve their potential.

Why NCFE?

There has never been a more important moment for vocational skills in the UK, providing up to date, innovative technical education and training. The key focus of NCFE is improving lives through learning and meeting the skills needs for the future workforce. This resonates with me and has throughout my career. Working with likeminded people, with commitment and passion to fulfil our charitable purpose is at the heart of why it is NCFE for me. Making a difference, transforming lives and making a significant impact on society drives and motivates me. It is humbling to be a part of.
