Tell us a bit about you

I am extremely family orientated and spend a lot of time either ferrying my two children around to their various activities or spending time carrying out activities with them. I love being outdoors – be it walking, hiking, running or even being in or on the water and wild swimming, paddleboarding or sailing (an activity which I took up for the first-time last year and loved it). I try to attend as many live music gigs as I can locally – having an eclectic taste in music has resulted in me seeing some bizarre performances!

Tell us a bit about your career

My early career was spent working for BT and then Reed Employment in commercial sales and management roles. However, joining the North East Chamber of Commerce commercial and funded training division in 2008, my passion for education, teaching and learning, and specifically apprenticeships, grew. The feeling of being part of something that can transform lives, as well as supporting business growth through addressing skills gaps, is truly rewarding. I made the transition into the FE sector, working for Middlesbrough College and then Gateshead College as an Assistant Principal where I ran study programmes, HE, AEB and apprenticeship provision across engineering and manufacturing and business curriculum areas, as well as having strategic responsibility for all apprenticeships at the college. The highlight of my career to date was having the privilege to work with and support several disengaged, disadvantaged young people and see them flourish on their apprenticeship through a newfound love for learning whilst working.

Why NCFE?

My first engagement with NCFE was whilst working at Gateshead College as a partner, working with the EPA team to deliver a large apprenticeship contract. The experience was extremely positive and left me with a fantastic perception of the organisation. Plus, the purpose and values of NCFE are something that I relate to and believe in. The ambition, drive and appetite for change not only within NCFE, but also within the sector as a whole, is something I am proud to be part of and contribute to. I look forward to the future with NCFE and the exciting journey ahead.
