From real ale to music, castles and...Bob Mortimer: What our devs love about living in the North East.
The North East is arguably one of the most exciting places in the UK to be involved in the tech industry but there is a lot more to living and working in this vibrant community than the exciting opportunities on offer.
Whether you are thinking of relocating or just need reminding about why the North East is the best place to call home, we caught up with our dev team to find why they love living and working in the region…
- You don’t have to go far before you’re immersed in nature
From our base at Quorum Business Park we’re just a stone’s throw from Rising Sun Country Park, 400 acres of open space including a nature reserve, grassland, woodland areas and a lake and in just 30 minutes you’ll find yourself on one of the UKs most beautiful coastlines, enjoying the sights and sounds of Whitley Bay and Tynemouth.
- Real ale
Living and working in the North East means getting to visit a whole host of pubs where you can soak up some of the local atmosphere and try one of the region’s many real ales. There are a lot of great real ale pubs to visit near Newcastle including Bacchus, The Split Chimp and Wylam Brewery.
- Friendly people
The North East are the friendliest people in the world and that’s a fact. Whether you’re a local or a newcomer to the city you’ll be welcomed with open arms and a whole load of Geordie patter.
- Castles, castles and more castles
Whether you want to pretend you’re in Harry Potter, or just soak up some history, there are some fantastic castles a short drive away from NCFE. From Alnwick Castle to Tynemouth Priory, Belsay Castle and Gardens and the dramatic Bamburgh Castle, you really are spoilt for choice.
- Tech meet ups
Support networks such as Dynamo and Digital Union, spaces such as PROTO and TusPark and groups such as the North East arm for Tech Nation and Newcastle Tech Trust are supporting and empowering individuals in the digital technology sector more than ever before.
- Our sci-tech scene
The region has always driven global innovation and the burgeoning SciTech scene is no different. The Life Centre is a pulsing science village right in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne where scientists, clinicians, educationalists and business people work. Not to mention Helix, a landmark 24-acre hybrid city quarter in the centre of Newcastle, built for international tech and science businesses.
- Music is everywhere
From the Cluny to the 02 academy and The Sage, whatever your tastes you can find live music seven nights a week in Newcastle.
- We are actually in “The North” (and we remember!)
It’s cute that Manchester, Leeds and even Liverpool think they’re classed as ‘the North’. You can’t really call yourself a real Northerner until you’ve lived in Newcastle and invested in an everyday ‘big coat’ and one for best.
- Bob Mortimer
Why would you not want to live in the region that spawned the undisputed king of comedy? That’s just madness.
The North East is mint and we’re not shy to talk about it. With that in mind, we’re pleased to say that we’re looking for the best in the business to join our team of talented developers.
