Study programmes from NCFE are designed to provide 16 -19 year old learners with a structured and challenging learning experience to support their development and progression, whether that is on to further study or their dream career.
Our study programmes meet the requirements of the Department for Education and are supported by our award-winning customer service and our high quality learning resources.
The study programme is a bespoke programme of learning and is made up of a substantial qualification, with learning time allocated to English and Maths, if required, additionality qualifications and a work placement. NCFE can provide you with a full-time solution to support your learners to success.
Study Programme Principles
1. NCFE’s substantial qualifications:
NCFE offer a range of qualifications across a number of sectors, to give your learners the choice and flexibility to learn in a way that’s best for them. All of our level 3 substantial qualifications attract UCAS points, to support higher education.
Applied Generals are level 3 qualifications aimed at post-16 learners who wish to continue their education through applied learning. Our Applied General qualifications are included in the performance tables for technical and vocational qualifications. These qualifications don’t require work placements/employer involvement in the delivery of the qualification and are assessed through a mixture of internal and external assessment.
Substantial qualifications are level 2 and 3 qualifications aimed at post-16 learners to develop their knowledge and skills in their chosen vocational area. These qualifications are assessed through a portfolio of evidence with no external assessment and may be suitable for a variety of learners including those who do not perform at their best under exam conditions.
2. CACHE Substantial Qualifications
CACHE is the leading sector specialist in Health, Social Care and Childcare and the following CACHE qualifications are available as part of our study programme offer. This is a great start in the growing care sectors under an industry recognised brand with a reputation for excellence.
Tech Certs and Tech Levels are level 2 and 3 qualifications aimed at post-16 learners to equip them with the knowledge and skills they need for skilled employment or further technical study. Tech Certs and Tech levels do have elements of work placement, which allows learners to apply knowledge in real work environments. You can find details of work placements in the qualification specifications. Please visit the CACHE website for details of these qualifications.

Maths and English are an important component of the study programme. Learners are expected to hold at least a GCSE in maths and English (grade 4 or grade C). Learners who have achieved a grade 2 or below or grade E or below are able to study an alternative qualification such as Functional Skills.
Students could increase their chances of success of achieving maths or English by studying Functional skills as there is a focus on developing practical skills and applying them to real-life situations.
