Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Please find below information relating to alternative arrangements specifically for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for 2020-21.

Scotland

NCFE is not approved by the regulator SQA Accreditation and therefore does not offer SQA accredited qualifications in Scotland.  Centres in Scotland offering NCFE qualifications that are regulated by Ofqual in England can use the same adaptations and approaches as our centres in England. See our ‘Approach to awarding for 2020-21’ document here.

Northern Ireland and Wales

For Northern Ireland and Wales, it is our understanding that these regulators will align to Ofqual’s approach for VTQs that are delivered in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. More specific guidance can be found below:

Northern Ireland

The Minister for the Economy has written to CCEA Regulation to advise that for vocational and technical qualifications offered in NI, external examinations scheduled from February to August 2021 should be cancelled and alternative awarding arrangements put in place. This aligns with the position in England. You can read the full statement here.

Wales

Qualification Wales (QW), the regulator for Wales, has released the following statement:

“We will work with the awarding bodies offering Wales-only vocational qualifications to reflect these arrangements in those qualifications and will continue to work with our fellow regulators to determine the arrangements for vocational and technical qualifications offered across the UK. Ofqual are currently consulting on the proposals.” You can read the full statement here.

Therefore, Wales will take into account the outcome of the Ofqual consultation as they’re not consulting separately. Read more.
