Functional Skills Exemplar Materials

NCFE have created a free resource to support both your delivery team and your learner’s knowledge around external assessments.

These materials have been created by our team of Examiners using real life responses from learners from retired external assessment papers. Their aim is to show how marks are applied for a range of questions and identifying why learners gain marks and common areas where they fail to pick up marks.

They are an excellent addition to our bank of sample papers, exam tips and Chief Examiner reports.

Speaking, Listening and Communication

These exemplar materials are aimed at Assessors who deliver the speaking, listening and communication internal assessments at Level 1 & 2.

Our team of EQAs often feedback that centres are not sure what type of observation or feedback is sufficient when completing the paperwork for these assessments. With this in mind our Chief EQAs have compiled some exemplars for both the observation grids and the learner feedback showing good feedback and feedback that would require improvement.

These materials are to be used as guidance for Assessors on what constitutes good feedback and the type of observations we would expect to see recorded. Your EQA is always the best person to go to for specific feedback and support with these assessments but these materials will over specific guidance for your Assessors.
