Portfolio updates

Changes to our portfolio

As part of ongoing reviews, we are repositioning some of our qualifications to either the NCFE or CACHE brand, and these changes will take place from 1 September 2017.

From this point, the NCFE portfolio will include all qualifications in the Preparation for Work; Foundations for Learning and Life; Sport, Leisure and Recreation; and Teaching and Lecturing sectors.

All qualifications in Child Development and Well-being; Health and Social Care; and Direct Learning Support (Supporting Teaching and Learning (STL)) sectors will be part of the CACHE portfolio.

This page outlines the qualifications which are affected by these changes and provides additional details on what these changes mean for your delivery.

The following will apply to all qualifications being transitioned:

Certification

Upon achieving these qualifications, NCFE will issue your learners with a CACHE branded certificate, enabling them to benefit from CACHE’s reputation among employers as a leading specialist provider in Health and Social Care.

Qualification Specification

From 1 September 2017, these qualifications will have new CACHE branded Qualification Specifications which you can access from the CACHE website.

Direct Claim Status (DCS)

If your centre has DCS for any of these qualifications, you'll continue to hold DCS.

Quality assurance

Following the transition, you'll be allocated a new CACHE External Quality Assurer (EQA) who’ll cover all of your Health and Social Care, Child Development and Well-being and Direct Learning Support provision moving forward.

Your new CACHE EQA will review exactly the same things as your current NCFE EQA but, instead of carrying out separate visits for each of your qualifications, will cover all applicable provision in one visit.

Approval

If you're approved to deliver any of these qualifications, you’ll continue to be approved to deliver them once they transition to the CACHE portfolio in September 2017.

Frequently ask questions

To help support you we have created a selection of FAQs.

Important actions to complete

In preparation for these changes, please ensure you complete the following actions before  September:

Check affected qualifications

  • Check our support pages to find out how the qualifications you deliver are impacted by these updates.

Manage your learner registrations

  • Ensure you are registering learners on the correct version of the qualification, being mindful that some qualification’s QRN codes are being replaced from 1st September. You can find a full list of the current and new QRN codes for the affected qualifications on our support pages.
  • Withdraw any learners registered on a transitioning qualification who have left without completing. View our support pages for more information on how to do this through our new Portal system.

Claim certificates for learners

  • If you have Direct Claims Status (DCS), arrange for certificates to be claimed for any learners who have completed any qualifications which are being repositioned. If you have any learners who remain uncertificated after your DCS lapses, an External Quality Assurance (EQA) visit will be required in order for certificate claims to be reviewed and signed off.
  • If you don’t have DCS but have learners ready for certification or approaching completion, contact your External Quality Assurer to make arrangements for your next EQA visit. They’ll be able to advise on an appropriate date for this based on your learners’ expected completion dates.

Affected qualifications

The following section details the qualifications which are affected by these changes and how they are impacted. The affected qualifications have been split into two areas.

  • qualifications being transitioned to the CACHE portfolio without changes being made to their Qualification Reference Number (QRN)
