English and maths

NCFE is fully equipped to support teaching and learner success at schools in English and maths. We offer different levels of solutions to tutors that will help support intervention as well as offering progression from using our bite-sized English and maths units, Functional Skills qualifications as alternatives to GCSEs and Core Maths, for Post-16 learners.

Bite-sized English and maths

Build a flexible learning programme for your learners and you’ll benefit from:

  • content that is practical in nature
  • the ability to mix and match from a huge range of units
  • no external assessment
  • high-quality resources
  • exemplar assessment papers
  • low administration

Core Maths

NCFE is proud to offer a new Level 3 Certificate in Mathematics for Everyday Life.

This qualification enables post 16 learners not studying AS or A level maths the opportunity to undertake a Level 3 maths course alongside their main programme of study. It will enable them to retain, deepen and extend their mathematical understanding through using maths to solve meaningful and relevant problems which will prepare learners for university, academic or vocational learning, employment and life. The word ‘life’ in our qualification title refers to all aspects of future needs, the key themes being:

  • Understanding personal finance
  • Understanding commerce
  • Understanding chance
  • Understanding data.

Mathematical problem solving will be contextualised in the following vocations and areas of interest in:

  • business and administration
  • engineering and manufacturing
  • health and science.

This qualification qualifies for the advanced maths premium, which is funding for additional students studying specified level 3 maths qualifications.

The 16-18 accountability measures technical guidance states that the current annex J shows ‘Level 3 qualifications for the TechBacc in 2018’. As the NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Mathematics for Everyday Life - 603/3437/X won’t be eligible for the TechBacc until 2020, the technical guidance will not be updated by DfE until the next update in June 2020.
