Performance Points Tables

We have a number of V Cert and other qualifications that carry performance points for Schools.

Young people have access to a wide range of qualifications, with little clarity about which will help them get a job or a place in higher education. To address this, the Government announced a number of reforms in its response to the Wolf Report, including that only those vocational qualifications that are the most valuable for young people – in terms of their content, assessment and progression – will be recognised in performance tables.

There are 4 categories of qualifications that DfE approve:

Technical Awards – high quality level 1 and 2 qualifications that equip 14 to 16 year olds with applied knowledge and practical skills

Applied General qualifications – level 3 qualifications for post-16 students who wish to continue their education through applied learning

Technical certificates and Tech Levels –level 2 and 3 qualifications that equip post-16 students with the knowledge and skills they need for skilled employment or for further technical study

We have developed a range of Technical Awards and Applied General (V Certs) qualifications.

Below are the NCFE qualifications that have been approved by the Department for Education to be included in the Key Stage 4 performance tables.

How many V Cert qualifications can count towards the Key Stage 4 performance tables?

From 2016 up to 3 Technical Awards can count in the Progress 8 measure.

In relation to the early entry policy, which V Cert qualification will count towards the Key Stage 4 performance tables?

Qualifications completed by learners in Year 7 onwards can count in the key stage performance tables once the learner reaches the end of KS4. However, the early entry policy comes in to effect from Year 9.

This means if a learner completes a Level 1 qualification in Year 7 or Year 8, and then completes the Level 2 qualification in Year 9 or Year 10, then the best result from either the level 1 or level 2 qualification will count in the performance tables.

However, if the learner completes both the Level 1 and Level 2 qualification in Year 9 or later, then the first entry will be reported in the performance tables.
