EPA Standard

Early Intervention Practitioner

Early Intervention Practitioners (EIPs) support individuals across all age ranges, to help them overcome barriers impacting their daily lives. These issue could involve alcohol, drug or gambling misuse, behavioural issues, mobility issues and learning difficulties. EIPs identify risks and provide intervention services at the right time to help prevent escalation to social care or other statutory partner thresholds. Support provided could involve a single agency input or coordinating a multi-agency response.

EIPs can provide impartial information, support and guidance to others impacted by their circumstances. They adopt a collaborative, evidence-based approach to build on the capacity and resilience of individuals by supporting them to take responsibility and ownership for themselves, which may also involve input from the individual’s family, friends and other professionals.

End-point assessment

The EPA for Early Intervention Practitioner contains two methods of assessment:

Presentation with Questions

In the Presentation with Questions, the apprentice delivers a presentation to an Independent End-Point Assessor (IEPA) on a subject. The IEPA must ask questions after the presentation. It gives the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) mapped to this assessment method. The Presentation with Questions must last 45 minutes. This will typically include a presentation of 30 minutes and questioning lasting 15 minutes.

Grades available: fail, pass, distinction.

Professional discussion underpinned by Portfolio

In the Professional Discussion, an IEPA and apprentice have a formal two-way conversation. It gives the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the KSBs mapped to this assessment method. The Professional Discussion must last for 1 hour.

Portfolio of Evidence requirements:

The apprentice must compile a Portfolio of Evidence during the on-programme period of the apprenticeship. It should only contain evidence related to the KSBs that will be assessed by the Professional Discussion.

Grades available: fail, pass, distinction.
