Existing Apprenticeship Frameworks
Currently, apprenticeship frameworks aligned with the SASE* and owned by Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) are made up of the following components:
- a knowledge-based qualification*
- a competence (skills) based qualification*
- Functional Skills/English and Maths qualifications
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
*in some cases a joint ‘combined’ qualification takes the place of the competence and knowledge-based qualifications.

Withdrawal of existing apprenticeship frameworks
The SSC owned Apprenticeshi[ Frameworks are being replaced by new Trailblazer groups and Apprenticeship standards.
The SFA periodically update a list of existing apprenticeship frameworks which they intend to withdraw, as replacement apprenticeship standards are developed and approved.
Many of the qualifications within these frameworks will continue to be used within the new apprenticeships, or will be offered by NCFE as stand-alone provision - please see our website or give us a call if you need more information.
What are the new Apprenticeship Standards
The standards are written by the Trailblazer Group and outline the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to carry out a certain job role. The Apprentices’ Employer and Training Provider are responsible for teaching the content of the standards.
|The decision about whether a learner is ready for progression to end point assessment will be made jointly by the employer and training provider.
End Point Assessment
|End Point Assessment is carried by an Independent Assessment Organisation in accordance with the Assessment Plan written by the Trailblazer Group. Employers/Training Providers can select their Assessment Organisation from the Register
