Statement on VTQ learners

NCFE is committed to ensuring that all eligible learners receive their results on time this summer – this is our top priority.

We’re in constant communication with our schools, colleges, and training providers to ensure we have all the information we need to make this happen. Most have successfully met all term-time checks, and we appreciate their cooperation and hard work on this.

However, some centres have yet to submit all the required information for their learners to receive their results this summer. In particular, we require all relevant centres to complete all of their remaining External Quality Assurance (EQA) actions by 31 July to guarantee the timely release of results. For T Levels and Level 1/2 Technical Awards, we require all relevant centres to submit all learner marks and evidence. Please take a look below for more information.

In some instances, we have warned centres about the potential for maladministration investigations if they do not respond promptly, and these consequences can be severe for the provider.

We’d like to reassure learners, parents and centres that these issues can still be resolved, provided we receive the necessary information as soon as possible. What’s more, we’re utilising every available resource at our disposal, as we continue to work diligently with schools, colleges and training providers to address any remaining challenges. We’re confident in our ability to achieve this, so that all eligible learners receive the results they deserve next month.

If you’re a learner or a parent with concerns around this, please check in with your centre for more information. If you’re a centre with NCFE and you’re unsure whether you’ve completed all appropriate actions, please take a look below for more information. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, you can contact our Customer Support team through LiveChat or via email at [email protected].

Results for many of the qualifications in scope will be released on a rolling basis throughout the year, with the exception of T Levels and Level 1/2 Technical Awards. Results for the qualifications in scope of the arrangements for the timely delivery of results will be provided to centres in advance of results days, and in sufficient time for exams officers to check and prepare them for final release to learners. Results will be released by the following dates:

  • Results for Level 3 qualifications (excluding T Levels) will be released to centres no later than Monday 12 August 2024 in preparation for learners receiving these by Thursday 15 August 2024. However, it should be noted that these are released on a rolling basis throughout the year and can be released to learners at any time.
  • Results for T Level technical qualifications will be released to providers on Wednesday 14 August 2024, in preparation for students receiving these by Thursday15 August 2024. These results are embargoed and can’t be released to students until Thursday 15 August 2024.
  • Results for Level 1/2 (V Cert) qualifications will be released to centres on Monday 19 August 2024 in preparation for learners receiving these on Thursday 22 August 2024. These results are embargoed and can’t be released to learners until Thursday 22 August 2024.

Please remember that your External Quality Assurance (EQA) actions need to be completed as soon as possible to guarantee the timely release of results. Please note that this does not apply to our T Levels or Level 1/2 Technical Awards.

  • You should upload grades/outcomes to the Portal as soon as they’re ready (including grades for qualifications with Direct Claim Status (DCS)).
  • All EQA reviews need to be completed as soon as possible for all qualifications with registered learners who will certificate this summer – this must be done before 31 July to ensure you receive your results on results day. It’s imperative that you reach out to your EQA to arrange a date for this as soon as you’re ready – availability is now very limited so we may not be able to accommodate your first date choice.
  • You must claim your certificates within 48 hours of your EQA review. Following your review, you should go back into the Portal and claim for all learners – certificates are not issued automatically unless you have DCS for that qualification (see Portal User Guide for more information). Our Customer Support team will contact you following the EQA review if you haven’t made your claims to provide any additional support required.

For students completing their T Level studies this year, we will submit results to the Department for Education (DfE) via the Manage T Level Results Service. The DfE calculates an overall grade for students who have met all the required elements for their T Level. NCFE doesn’t issue overall T Level grades, nor do we print and dispatch T Level certificates. DfE will share results with UCAS. Full details relating to T Level grades can be found on the Gov.uk website.

If you have queries about student results, please view our post-results services webpage for information on reviews of marking or moderation, clerical checks, or access to student evidence. Some key points to note are outlined below:

All post-result requests require the consent of your students. Therefore, you can not submit any requests before Thursday 15 August 2024.

You can request for a review of marking or moderation of a single assessment or assignment, for example core paper A, or the Employer Set Project, or a single assignment from an occupational specialism, or for individual students or an entire cohort. You can submit a review of moderation on moderated OS assignments, but requests must be on behalf of all students in the cohort.

You can find the timescales for requests in our Key Dates Schedule.

Please note that you have to complete each step of the post-result process before you can submit an appeal. Please see more information on appeals.

Level 1/2 Technical Award (V Cert) results

On Monday 19 August 2024, you’ll be able to access the assessment results for your learners as well as your learners’ overall grades on the Portal (see Portal User Guide for more information). These are embargoed until 22 August 2024 when you can share results with your learners.

You will not need to claim certificates for your Level 1 and 2 Technical Award learners. These learners will be auto-certificated 6 weeks after the results release date. This means you’ll be able to view their e-certificates on 2 October 2024 on the Portal and will receive a physical copy of the certificates around 4 weeks after this date.

  • From Monday 19 August, you’ll be able to view the final moderation report via the NCFE Portal. This will include feedback from the Moderator on areas where your learners have performed well and areas for development.
  • If you or your learners have queries about grades received, please view our post-results services for more information on enquiries about results, access to scripts, a review of marking and more. Please note that any post-result requests require the consent of the learner. Therefore, you can’t submit any requests before 22 August when your learners will receive their results.
  • Please check all your previous emails from NCFE to ensure you have resolved any outstanding queries, to ensure your learners’ results are released on time.

As a reminder, there are no resits for single assessments, early attempts at either assessment, or the chance to combine multiple attempts across more than one series. Learners can retake the qualification in full, but no assessment results from previous attempts at the qualification can be carried forward. Learners complete both assessments in a single series, and this provides their qualification outcome.

Although there are no resits, these qualifications give learners a platform for further study if they do go on to continue that subject in further education - they'll have subject-specific knowledge which gives them a head start and helps set them up for future success.
