Community Activator Coach

Community Activator Coaches lead fun, inclusive activities that help people become and stay physically active. They work with communities to understand their needs and support behaviour change.

They’re more than sports leaders, they understand the people they work with.

Community Activator Coaches are positive role models. They build trust with young people, inactive individuals and low-income or marginalised communities. They often specialise in working with a specific group.

You’ll find Community Activator Coaches working in:

  • charities that use sport for social change

  • small businesses in the sport and activity sector

  • local authorities and youth agencies

  • leisure centres and sports clubs

  • housing associations and outdoor education centres

They also often work with youth workers, the police and health teams to make communities healthier.

End-point assessment

The end-point assessment (EPA) for Community Activator Coach contains two methods of assessment:

Observation with Questioning

In the Observation with Questions, an Independent End-Point Assessor (IEPA) observes the apprentice face to face in their workplace and asks questions. The apprentice completes their day-to-day duties under normal working conditions. Simulation is not allowed. It gives the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the KSBs mapped to this assessment method. The Observation with Questions must last for 1 hour, with 45 minutes Observation and 15 minutes questioning (+10% to allow the
apprentice to respond to a question if necessary).

Grading: Fail, pass or distinction.

Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence

In the Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence, an IEPA and apprentice have a formal two-way conversation. It gives the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the KSBs mapped to this assessment method. The Professional Discussion underpinned by Portfolio must last 45 minutes (+10% to allow the apprentice to respond to a question
if necessary).

Grading: Fail, pass or distinction.
