What does the qualification cover?
This qualification develops the knowledge and the skills necessary for effective communication and how to identify development needs and support for individuals. Speech, language and communication skills are essential for learning and social and emotional well-being, therefore it’s important that practitioners understand what typical development looks like for different age groups.
Who is it suitable for?
Practitioners in a wide range of settings who are looking to improve their practice and specialist learning. This includes settings for children and young people, playwork, health and social care, youth justice and Supporting Teaching and Learning.
What are the entry requirements?
You should be at least 16 years old. We do not set any other entry requirements but colleges or training providers may have their own guidelines.
How many credits are required to complete it?
The Award requires 9 credits.
How is it assessed?
It will be assessed by your Tutor or Assessor using a range of methods. This could include a portfolio of evidence, written assignments, coursework, direct observation of practice or a task.
Do you need to be working to take the qualification?
Yes, you will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
How long does it take to complete?
You can usually complete it in 3 months.
What related qualifications can you progress to?
The Level 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Child Care and Education (Early Years Educator), Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce and the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.
