What does this qualification cover?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide an insight into the uniformed services as a potential area for employment. The key focus is to develop new technical skills for learners to attain a foundation of technical skills required in the uniformed protective services such as the police service, fire service and armed forces. This will inevitably support progression to an apprenticeship in the uniformed protective services such as the:

• army
• navy
• RAF
• prison service
• fire and rescue service
• police.

Who is it suitable for?

This qualification is designed for learners aged 14–16 in schools and colleges but is also accessible for learners post-16.

What are the entry requirements?

This qualification is suitable for learners aged pre-16 and above. There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification.

Centres are responsible for ensuring that this qualification is appropriate for the age and ability of learners. They need to make sure that learners can fulfil the requirements of the learning outcomes and comply with the relevant literacy, numeracy and health and safety aspects of this qualification.

How is this qualification structured?

This qualification is made up of 2 mandatory units.

How is it assessed?

Internally assessed and graded.

What’s next?

Depending on the grade the learner achieves in this qualification, they could progress to:

• Level 3 in Uniformed Protective Services
• Protective Services Apprenticeships such as policing, security, HM forces, fire service, paramedics.
