Now launched: foundation apprenticeships

Foundation apprenticeships are designed to help learners:

• take their first step into work-based learning at Level 2
• develop sector-specific employability skills that lead to higher-level apprenticeships or direct employment
• access opportunities for young people aged 16–21 (or 22–24 with an Education, Health and Care plan, or those in the prison/ex-offender system)

The introduction of foundation apprenticeships brings a more streamlined, provider-friendly approach:

• On-programme assessment built in.
• More flexibility for providers with aspects you can deliver and mark.
• Simpler terminology:
  • "apprenticeship assessment" replaces EPA
  • "Assessment Organisation" replaces EPAO
  • "Gateway to completion" replaces Gateway.

There are now seven foundation apprenticeships nationally, across sectors including Engineering, Health and Social Care, and IT Infrastructure.
