Functional Skills online practice assessments - English and maths
Our practice assessments are available as:
- Paper-based: Downloadable from the qualification information pages. You will find them under the ‘Assessment materials' on each qualification page.
- Onscreen: Practice assessments are available to schedule via Surpass. A keycode is generated and it must be sat via SecureClient.
- In-browser: Accessible using the links below. Simply click the link and the assessment will open in your browser.
Our onscreen practice assessments use SecureClient which is the same software used to deliver our live assessments. We would encourage that centres book a practice assessment through Surpass to test their equipment and ensure that tests run smoothly.
When scheduling practice assessments in Surpass, you will find practice tests with and without a suffix of ‘New Style’. New style refers to the improvements we have made to our assessments, further information about the changes can be found here.
We are currently running a pilot which allows centres to mark their learners’ practice assessments within the Surpass platform, please contact [email protected] if you would like further information on the pilot and how to be included.
The in-browser practice assessment links below provide learners with an opportunity to practice taking an NCFE Functional Skills onscreen assessment by using a browser version of our onscreen assessment platform.
Any learner responses inputted into an in-browser assessment cannot be retrieved once the assessment has been closed. If you wish to mark learner responses from an in-browser assessment the responses will need to be captured at the end of the sitting or screenshots taken throughout to facilitate this.
For Learners:
Please note: The practice assessments below are for demonstration purposes. They will not be marked automatically. If you wish to mark responses, you will need to screenshot your answers of record them elsewhere to compare to the mark scheme. Answers cannot be retrieved once the assessment has been submitted.
