The history of CACHE

1945
CACHE was founded in 1945 under the name of the National Nursery Examination Board (NNEB). In 1947, the NNEB set the syllabus for the first national childcare exams – this was the beginning of setting national standards in childcare and education training.

1994
In 1994, the NNEB merged with the Council for Early Years Awards to form CACHE. In the late 1990s, noting a gap in the market for training within the growing social and caring fields, CACHE introduced qualifications in these sectors, in a bid to help improve the level of care offered to the elderly and vulnerable within our society.

2001
In 2001, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II became the patron of the organisation as a result of CACHE incorporating the National Association for Maternal and Child Welfare.

2015
In 2015, CACHE became part of NCFE, and its qualifications continue to drive professionalisation in the education, early years, and social care sectors today.
