Supporting North East businesses
North East Enterprise Agency is a unique collaboration of multi-award winning enterprise agencies supporting businesses across the North East of England. Their nine partners are all well-known and long-established locally and each has an excellent track record in delivering services to help North East businesses start, develop and grow.
Adam Clemerson, is the Skills Project Manager for The North East Enterprise Agency. His role is to develop and implement projects related to the skills development of enterprising and entrepreneurial people in North East England.
Telling us more about the organisation, Adam said: “North East Enterprise Agency was established in 2008 to ensure there’s regional coverage of enterprise and business support services across North East England. Today, we continue to play a critical role within the enterprise and business support landscape, providing an unrivalled package of business support services across the region.
“With a collective turnover of £14.9million, any surplus is retained within the organisation and used to provide support to potential new and existing small and medium sized enterprises. This combined with our 241 full-time employees and our diverse offering of products and services puts us in an excellent position to support other businesses and allows us to operate effectively across the North East. Through our board members and staff, we contribute strategic input into many business partnerships and networks.”
Influential organisation endorsing Technical Award
As an influential organisation in this area, North East Enterprise Agency choosing to endorse the Business and Enterprise V Cert is an exciting accolade, showing how relevant the qualification is to the industry. Adam commented: “We recognise that there is a need for this qualification as we believe that it is vitally important that learning about business and enterprise be included in the national curriculum, as ensuring that our young people are educated in that area will help our economy thrive in the future.
“The Level 1/2 Technical Award in Business and Enterprise is a carefully crafted qualification which provides young people with an introduction to the subject area which is applied and relevant. Through studying this qualification they will gain a broad understanding and knowledge of working in the sector, including legal structures, marketing, market research, operations management, resource planning, human resources, funding, finance and planning.
“V Cert Technical Awards are a great alternative to GCSEs, to provide the knowledge and skills that learners require, with equivalent levels of challenge and rigour.”
Advice for business tycoons of the future
Sharing some advice to young people with hopes of succeeding in business and enterprise, Adam said: “Be brave and follow your dreams, but remember it is useful to seek support from the many experts who provide funded help to develop business ideas. Take advantage of the opportunity available through qualifications like the V Cert in Business and Enterprise.
“There are plenty of opportunities for young people to enter the industry, and we want to challenge the perception that business and enterprise is not for young people, as it is a great career path for those of all ages. It is important to increase promotion of the opportunities available and communicate the level of support that is available to aspiring entrepreneurs or business tycoons.”
