About this qualification
This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to develop competence as a social care worker in a range of social care support settings.
This qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working in social care settings. It contains mandatory units which allow the learner to develop the knowledge and skills which are required for the role.
Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to work in the Social Care sector. This qualification will also enable progression to further studies.
This qualification aims to:
- focus on the study of the social care sector
- offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge, skills and behaviours
- provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills
The objectives of this qualification are to:
- provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to develop competence as a lead social care worker in a range of social care support settings
- develop the knowledge and skills needed when working in social care settings
What are the entry requirements?
There are no specific prior skills/knowledge a learner must have for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they have already achieved a level 2 social care qualification.
How is this qualification structured?
To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully pass all 23 units from the graded mandatory units.
How is it assessed?
This qualification is internally assessed and externally quality assured.
The assessment consists of one component:
- an internally assessed portfolio of evidence, which is assessed by centre staff and externally quality assured by NCFE (internal quality assurance must still be completed by the centre as usual)
Learners must be successful in this component to gain the Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Social Care (Diploma).
Is employment or completion of work/industry placement required for this qualification?
The qualification requires learners to attend a work/practical placement to support their learning. A minimum of 30 hours of placement in a work/practical placement are required.
