About this qualification
This qualification is designed to give learners the skills, knowledge and understanding of the sport and physical activity sector. This qualification will act as a stepping stone to a range of occupations often through the route of higher education.

Nested qualification
This qualification is nested. Qualifications within a nested suite allow learners to be topped up to a qualification that is the same level and subject within the Introductory Certificate, Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diploma structure. Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 and above.
The qualification is designed for learners who want to go on to higher level studies and is suitable for use within a Study Programme.
What are the entry requirements?
This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 and over and provides them with the knowledge, skills and understanding required within the sport and physical activity sector. It will also allow learners to gain transferable skills that can be applied to the workplace or further study.
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for these qualifications. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 qualification.
Entry is at the discretion of the centre, in accordance with equality legislation, and should be made on the Portal.
How is this qualification structured?
To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units and 6 optional units.
How is it assessed?
This qualification is internally assessed and externally quality assured via a portfolio of evidence.
How long will it take to complete this qualification?
This is a 1-year qualification.
Is employment or completion of work/industry placement required for this qualification?
Learners taking the Working in Sport and Leisure pathway will be required to undertake a placement/work experience as part of the work experience in sport unit. Where necessary, this can be carried out in school or college shadowing a teacher or coach, or working with peers (for example, organising coaching sessions with other year groups or children from a local school). There are specific requirements for centres and employers relating to the insurance of learners in the workplace. Further information about insurance can be found at abi.org.uk or hse.gov.uk.
