Designed to recognise learners who demonstrate exceptional progress, professionalism and commitment within their vocational studies, this commendation celebrates individuals who go above and beyond in their learning and placement. River Querelle is highly commended for her outstanding start and the impact she is already making in health education.
The challenge
As a T Level Health learner at East Coast College, River has approached her studies with focus and a clear sense of purpose. From the outset, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to developing the knowledge and skills needed for a career in healthcare.
Her ambition to become a paramedic drives her enthusiasm for learning, encouraging her to fully engage with both the academic and practical elements of the programme.
Louise Frosdick, a Lecturer in Health and Social Sciences and the T Level Health Course Lead at East Coast College Great Yarmouth Campus, shares: "This recognition is a wonderful reflection of the commitment, enthusiasm and professionalism that River brings to her studies every day. I am incredibly proud of all she has achieved so far and excited to see what the future holds for her."
Dedicated to learning
River consistently produces high-quality, reflective work and shows a strong ability to apply theory to real-world healthcare contexts. Her dedication to learning is evident in her excellent academic progress and her willingness to seek out opportunities to deepen her understanding.
River demonstrates a strong sense of professionalism and ethical awareness, showing a clear commitment to person-centred care, dignity, and respect, particularly when considering the needs of vulnerable individuals. Her understanding of professional responsibility, patient autonomy, confidentiality, and ethical practice is well developed, and she consistently aligns her behaviour with the expectations of the healthcare sector.
Making an impact
On placement, River has exceeded expectations, earning praise for her compassion, communication skills and exemplary bedside manner. She has also taken initiative to broaden her experience, including spending time with a Pain Nurse Specialist to further develop her knowledge and insight into patient care, and supporting her future career prospects.
A placement supervisor said: “I have supervised many T Level students; however, I believe River stands out from the rest, with her wonderful work ethic and true passion for healthcare. Her bedside manner is outstanding, and she consistently demonstrates compassion, great communication, and advocacy for all of the patients we cared for together.”
Supporting peers
Within college, River is a role model, maintaining 100% attendance and acting as a calm and supportive presence among her peers. She has also played a key role in contributing to the development of a peer-mentoring programme, demonstrating both leadership and a commitment to helping others succeed.
Her involvement has already influenced discussions around how peer mentoring could be developed further within the course and future delivery of the qualification at East Coast College.
Speaking on her commendation, River said: "It's amazing to be recognised by my tutors and NCFE for my progress and hard work. I hope to continue in the same way and begin my career in healthcare in the future."
River’s journey reflects quiet resilience and determination. She embodies the values the T Level Health programme aims to develop. River is compassionate, reflective, ethical, and aspirational, and consistently demonstrates professionalism in both academic and placement settings. For a student so early in their training, the impact she has already made is exceptional.
