Learner stories: "A perfect opportunity to get a career in sport"

Last year, NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity student, Henry Coates, won the Junior Darts World Cup as England captain. We caught up with the Chesterfield College learner and young darts champion to learn more about how his course is helping to set him up for a future career within the sports sector.

Why did you choose to study this NCFE qualification?

“I chose this course due to the vast opportunities it will give me after college. I’m interested in working in sports coaching or sports analysis, and as I hadn’t decided which route I would like to go down, this course was perfect whilst I decided.”

Which elements of your qualification have you most enjoyed?

“So far, the best bits for me have been the practical side of the course, as I find this the most interesting part. The assessments are all coursework – which I prefer, as it works around my darts training schedule.”

This course has given me great insight into these careers which will help me eventually decide which I’m best suited to!”

What are your plans for the future?

“My plan after I finish this course is to go to university to become a coach, analyst or psychologist. This course has given me great insight into these careers which will help me eventually decide which I’m best suited to!”

Would you recommend this qualification?

“I’d really recommend studying this course to others as it has a range of opportunities within sports, so it’s a perfect opportunity to get a career in within this sector. Alongside this, if you prefer doing coursework instead of exams, it’s a good choice.”
