Education and Early Years specific updates March 2023

The ‘Education and Childcare’ route and pathway for T Levels will now be known as the ‘Education and Early Years’ from 1 March onwards. The name change brings the route and pathway name in line with terminology used by the sector to describe itself. This was validated by our route panel of employers and other expert representatives (including the Department for Education early years team). We hope that this change in terminology now more accurately represents the full range of occupations within this broad and important sector. We will be updating all qualification and assessment materials and website content to reflect the new occupational route name over the coming weeks.

If you’re delivering this qualification, you no longer need to remove learner marks from the learner evidence. Once the assessment window closes in line with the KDS, your Moderator will send you the list of learners selected for sampling. You should use the One Drive link previously provided by your Moderator alongside the moderation checklist to upload the required evidence for each learner selected.

The required evidence for each learner selected for sampling must be uploaded within two working days of this being available, excluding any bank holidays. Please note this will fall within half term holidays for some providers. Providers must ensure that adequate resource is available during this time to upload evidence required for moderation.

It’s advised that evidence for each learner is collated during the assessment in readiness to support the upload for moderation at the end of the assessment window. Providers are advised to ensure that this evidence is stored in a central location with access made available to the staff who will be responsible for uploading it for moderation.

The assessment window for moderation of the Occupational Specialism Early Years Educator and Assisting Teaching is now open. This window will close on 26 May 2023.

Visit the Preparing for a moderation review for T Level Technical Qualification in Education and Early Years (Level 3) (Delivered By NCFE) 603/5829/4 page on our website for all the information you need to prepare for moderation.

You’ll receive a sampling plan from your Moderator. For learners selected for final moderation you’ll be expected to upload evidence to support the moderation process both prior to the observation and following. Your Moderator will send you a OneDrive link and a checklist that should be followed and completed for each student.

Dates for evidence to be uploaded:

  • Planning documentation per observation – minimum one week prior the observation date
  • Completed observation documentation per observation – by 26 May 2023.

If you’ve had a moderation review previously, please refer to your moderation report in the Portal to make sure any actions have been addressed.

You should also refer to our Chief Moderator reports which contain feedback from the Chief Moderator relating to the externally assessed element of the Early Years Educator and Assisting Teaching occupational specialism for the summer 2022 series:
