Has the young person in your care shown an interest in starting an apprenticeship after finishing school? If so, you’re in the right place – we’ve put together this helpful page for parents and supporters, helping you to gather the information you’ll need to make an informed decision.

An overview of apprenticeships

Apprenticeships assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) required to be occupationally competent in a specific role. Apprenticeships are available across a range of industries, from healthcare to digital.

Over the past 20 years, apprenticeship programmes have been refined and developed extensively, proving to be an excellent pathway for many learners looking to enter the world of work. Apprenticeships now offer the opportunity to earn while you learn, with some apprenticeships providing certification to the equivalent of a master's degree at university.
